ABOUT ME
As both an organizer and an artist, I believe that art is inherently political and the ultimate vehicle for social change. I see daily how people rely on creativity as part of political movements, and vice versa. There’s a reason why dictators are so afraid of artists.
I use my practice to examine the historical context of bodily autonomy. These current misogynistic ideologies are deemed relics of an unenlightened past. However, the sexism and violence that created these patriarchal systems are still alive and well today. My artwork examines the archival use of art, fabric, paper, and collage to represent different jaded sides of the body, self-ownership, and beauty. My practice is a harsh, but gilded, look at the history of female subjugation, bodily autonomy, and ultimately, unapologetic empowerment and liberation.
My artwork depicts control from an internal and external lens, grappling with what it means to exist within yourself and this country. My work is both a celebration of freedom and an examination of the structures that must be shed to get there.
I have had my work shown at the Kennedy Center, Art Basel, Project for An Empty Space, and have also been featured on @instagram. I attended Carnegie Mellon University, informing my social justice art practice through a double major in Art and Global Systems and Management and double minor in Gender Studies and Public Policy.
Currently, I reside in New York City, and am the Multi-Media Content Creator for the National Institute for Reproductive Health. I am also a freelance social justice artist, creating art that matters.
